Lessons from Harry Potter for These Tumultuous and Transitional Times: Lesson 5

The night Professor Dumbledore has Hagrid deliver Harry to the Dursley’s house he explains to Professor McGonagall that it will be better for Harry to grow up away from the world he’ll eventually—is destined—to be a full member of.

We know that the Dursleys were aware of Harry’s specialness, which they detested and were determined to suppress, including with various punishments when his special abilities began to become evident or when he spoke of dreams that contrasted with what was considered “normal” in Status Quo Tick-Tock life.

How often we hear of people who are attuned to their spiritual-metaphysical abilities, inherent in each of us—but denied by many who are afraid of repercussions or punishment by the Status Quo, or were conditioned to be afraid of these abilities or believe they’re evil—who are born into families they feel, at times, like strangers to. It can feel very much as though they are like Harry living with the Dursleys: they feel as though they have little to nothing in common with their immediate or even extended family members. If they discuss or demonstrate their spiritual-metaphysical aspects, they are ridiculed. If they demonstrate they’re uncomfortable in Status Quo Tick-Tock Land, they are criticized and told they don’t have the same value as someone in SQTT Land. Sometimes, they believe what they’re told, even though this creates inner discord.

They may not get a letter from Hogwarts announcing that their differences are who they are and have a purpose in their lives, but the Universe sends its own letter-forms that indicate there is mystery and magic (spiritual-metaphysical qualities) in the Universe—and in them. Maybe they’ll respond to these telegrams. Maybe they won’t, if they are attached to the opinions of others, if they crave acceptance by others more than they possess self-acceptance and self-approval as expressions of The One Source.

If you’ve felt like Harry living with the Dursleys and haven’t stepped away from that and into your True Self, you’re likely frustrated. Life may seem as though it doesn’t work for you. Or maybe you’ve followed Tick-Tock and done well but feel something is missing. What’s missing is your true, full expression of who you really are, which means the experiences you are meant to have and the purposes you are meant to fulfill are waiting in the wings for you to show up. Be brave, as Harry was: show up. Let the life you were meant to live now unfold for you. Allow your abilities and Source to lead you into your purpose and destiny and unique contribution.

Prof. Dumbledore had also explained to Prof. McGonagall that Harry would be better off growing up away from the knowledge of who he was and why and how he was special, until it was time, so that it wouldn’t turn his head. This applies to us, as well. Have you ever learned something—before you’ve actually integrated it as your way of being—and started talking to everyone about it, only to feel foolish later, when your lack of integration or practice is demonstrated in your life? This type of experience is actually for your protection, just as Harry living with the Dursleys was. Most of the time, it is wiser to develop your personal power in silence. This cuts out the static from others and their opinions. It also gives you the time you need to let your inner power build until your inner knowing about this is so much your foundation that you trust it and your self completely. You may also build your power and use it silently within Tick-Tock, where only you or a few are aware of the good you’re doing.

This path may be lonely initially, but you will eventually connect with others who share your inner knowing and understanding of the juicy mystery we are all part of.
